I think people need to stop complaining about their culture (or lack of), other people, how things are, etc and start setting a positive-energy example. I think societies are susceptible (both positively and negatively) to a ripple effect from relatively few people. It’s not because circumstances are right, they usually aren’t. The postwar 60s were pretty barren, the 70s-80s were the Thatcher dole culture years. Look at what bloomed in those ‘worse’ times. Imagine what it meant to some poor kid in the 60s (anywhere) to hear the Beatles. Or The Smiths in the 80s. Life felt more worth living. To me it’s today that feels like a wasteland. I can’t really explain what has happened, though more recently I blame smartphones and the internet generally.
