I’m in awe of your fortitude in the face of such challenges.

A good long-time friend of mine from DC has been living in London since the 80s. A few years ago he was struck by some kind virus/infection/dunno which put him in a coma and has left him semi-debilitated since. He didn’t show up for work, his colleagues came to his residence and found him unconscious on the floor… Now he’s walking but unsteady and still in PT. Scary stuff, like you said, the cause may forever be a mystery.
